Lanham, MD – February 21st, 2017 – Cohen Equities announced today that 2U, Inc., the company’s tenant at 7900 Harkins Road, has opened for business. Employees are currently occupying 169,050 RSF of the building and will phase into the remaining 140,253 RSF over the next three years.
2U announced its headquarters would be relocated to 7900 Harkins Road in Lanham, Maryland last summer, promising to deliver a state of the art facility to its employees. 2U and Gensler Architecture Design were responsible for the design of the premises, and James G Davis Construction Corporation performed the renovation.
Under the renovations, 2U has turned the second floor into an amenity space for their employees, comprised of a juice bar, lounge and full service gym equipped with state of the art machines and featuring yoga and cycling classes. The lobby, still being finalized, will include a full service cafeteria with ordering available via mobile apps, coffee bar, auditorium and seating areas. Beginning this spring, employees will have access to outdoor garden working areas and event space. The building has been converted into a vertical tech campus fit for 2U’s innovative and transformational use of the space.
The move to 7900 Harkins Road was part of 2U’s initiative to accommodate a rapidly growing workforce. The company is targeting the creation of more than 900 jobs in the D.C. metropolitan area within the next five years.
