Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
With over 30 years of experience as a real estate investor across multiple asset classes and investment strategies, Meir has a well earned reputation as one of the most entrepreneurial private real estate investors in the United States. Starting with only a few thousand dollars in 1984, Meir has successfully acquired and enhanced the value of over 10 million square feet of real estate nationally through his various investment platforms. Whether through location (he was early to Manhattan’s Hudson River waterfront and Penn Station submarkets), asset class (he aggressively acquired and exited large scale Class-A office buildings between 2003 and 2005) or property interest (he made astute investments in CMBS securities in 2009), Meir has proven himself to be a unique identifier of opportunistic investments that focus on unrealized potential.
Director of Acquisitions
Leonard oversees Cohen Equities’ acquisitions activities, leading a team of Analysts and Associates in selecting, underwriting and executing a variety of different investment opportunities. Leonard has played a key role in developing Cohen Equities’ investment criteria and building relationships throughout the real estate industry, including Cohen Equities’ capital relationships. Prior to joining Cohen Equities, Leonard was an Acquisitions Associate with Gibraltar Capital and Asset Management, acquiring non-performing loan portfolios. Leonard graduated with a B.S. in Finance from the University of Central Florida and a Masters in Real Estate from Cornell University.
Director of Operations
Teddy oversees Cohen Equities’ operations and plays a key role in management. He steers the firm’s leasing and asset management activities for its retail portfolios and oversees a variety of transactional, deal-making and other matters. Teddy was Cohen Equities’ first employee and has played an integral role in building the company with Meir to what it is today. Prior to joining Cohen Equities, Teddy worked with Baruch Management managing a diverse portfolio of commercial and residential property throughout the greater New York Metro area. Teddy graduated from City University of New York, Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Business Management & Finance and a B.B.A. in International Business/Business Law.
Jonathan A. Cohen
Executive Vice President
Jonathan works on acquisition, disposition, refinancing, and capital raising activities for Cohen Equities. Prior to joining Cohen Equities in 2015, Jonathan worked for J.P. Morgan in its Real Estate Investment Banking team in NY, as well as Morgan Stanley’s Real Estate Investment Banking team in London. Jonathan graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BBA from George Washington University in Washington D.C. Jonathan is currently an MBA Candidate at Columbia Business School.
Elliot leads Cohen Equities accounting and controls activities. Working with a team of internal and external accounting professionals, Elliot manages the firm’s day-to-day accounting, together with its financial reporting, audit and tax matters. A CPA himself, Elliot provides a crucial source of institutional-grade controls and checks & balances and is actively involved in all transactional matters. Prior to joining Cohen Equities, Elliot worked as an auditor at Daszkel Bolton LLP, a leading regional public accounting firm in Florida, where he assisted in conducting audits and reviews for public, private and not-for-profit companies. Elliot graduated from Western Governors University with a B.S. in Accounting and is a CPA in the State of New York.
Michael Hartley, CPA
Michael oversees accounting and financial reporting for Cohen Equities’ retail/office portfolios. Prior to joining Cohen Equities, Michael worked with Gramercy Property Trust where he prepared financial reporting for industrial/office portfolios, and Gibraltar Capital and Asset Management where he handled the accounting and financial reporting for their portfolios and joint ventures. Michael graduated with a B.A. in Accounting from Holy Family University(2010) and with an M.B.A. in Accounting and Finance from LaSalle University in 2015.
Director of Asset Management
With experience in both the office, medical and retail sectors of the commercial real estate industry, Whitney Meyer has overseen approximately 40 million square feet of office product for leasing and asset management purposes. Whitney has also overseen year end accounting, budgeting, acquisitions and dispositions, and refinancing. The primary focus has been on Class A office products in top tier markets, including New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Palm Beach. Whitney has worked on a great number of notable buildings from coast to coast, including the Hancock Tower in Boston, the Aon Tower in Los Angeles, the Rookery in Chicago and The Burberry Building in New York.
Originally from Saint Louis, Missouri, Whitney ventured to the East Coast for her undergraduate years at Georgetown University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, graduated magna cum laude and was nominated as a Rhodes Scholar. During her time as a Georgetown, Whitney attended the London School of Economics.
Director of Retail Leasing and Development
Travis oversees Cohen Equities retail portfolio. He is involved in every aspect of a deal from acquisition to disposition. Leveraging his past experience and driving NOI through aggressive leasing strategies Travis uses his diverse background to develop and execute the business plan at each property maximizing value for sale. Beginning his commercial real estate career in 2004 with Pyramid Management Group until 2011 Travis worked as Operations Manager, Business Development and Specialty Leasing Representative, Regional Leasing Field Director and as a Permanent Leasing Representative. Travis then spent an additional 3 years in a Management and Business Development role with Taubman. Currently having worked with Cohen Equities for 3 years as the Director of Retail Asset Management Travis has accumulated 14 years of experience within multiple disciplines of commercial real estate and leasing.
Director of Dispositions and Refinancing
Joshua oversees disposition and refinancing activities for Cohen Equities’ portfolios of assets. Working closely with numerous lenders, Joshua structures the appropriate cost of capital for each deal in order to maximize the asset’s performance and rapidly return capital to investors. Prior to joining Cohen Equities, Joshua worked for Barclays in its Global Markets division. Joshua graduated with a BSc from The New York University Stern School of Business.
Acquisitions and Asset Management Associate
Michael works directly with the Director of Acquisitions to originate and execute new acquisition opportunities for Cohen Equities’ portfolio. Michael is the lead underwriter on the acquisitions team and plays a key role in property due diligence, negotiation and investment analysis. In addition, Michael works directly with the Director of Asset Management to oversee leasing, capital projects and property management for a portion of Cohen Equities’ office portfolio.
Previously, Michael was an Analyst at The Ackman-Ziff Real Estate Group where he was part of teams that raised over $300MM of debt and equity for a variety of institutional clients. Prior to Ackman-Ziff, Michael worked in J.P. Morgan’s Exotic Interest Rate Derivatives Middle Office in both New York City and Tokyo, Japan. Michael graduated with a B.S. in Finance from Villanova University, where he played Club Ice Hockey, and received a Masters in Real Estate from New York University’s Schack Institute of Real Estate.
Manager of Leasing and Asset Management
Richard works directly with the Director of Retail Asset Management and the Director of Office Asset Management to oversee the operational and leasing pipeline of the entire Cohen Equities retail portfolio. Prior to joining Cohen Equities, Richard worked as a Lease Analyst for Kimco Realty Corporation where he handled the accounting, tenant audits, and legal for the company’s northeast portfolio. Richard graduated with a B.S. from the City University of New York, Queens College. Richard is currently an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY).
